As a 1.1m SP new player that has been playing for just over three weeks, I personally feel that the amount of content is acceptable, though I do not play for more than 10 hours a week. Perhaps if I played more I would feel differently.
As a longtime player intimately familiar with both FPS games and MMO's (though new to the EVE Universe), the innate balance of one class and loadout versus another isn't really too bad. However, there is a segue here to my next point...
Having people graduate the Battle Academy with less than 510k SP and then forcing them to fight against veterans with 30M SP is terrible, terrible game design. Now granted, I am still figuring out how to best allot the SP I have, but I'm quickly getting the hang of it. I rarely lose an engagement against someone with similar gear. Usually when I lose, it's against someone in a prototype suit with a prototype weapon.
Just yesterday I was sniping and my team was getting crushed. So I decided to sit back and do a minor poll of how many geared players were on the other team. I was using the Militia Gallente Medium dropsuit (saving for the Logi suit), Ishukone Sniper Rifle with a light damage mod. I could oneshot anyone in starter gear with a headshot. A heavy in a prototype suit? 5 shots. Roughly 20% armor left. At least 3 of those were headshots, he was standing still.
I feel like if CCP would create tiers of SP levels, the game would be much more balanced.
1. Extend the Battle Academy to 5000 WP. Skilled players will graduate in 2 games, less skilled players have more time against lesser geared players before getting curbstomped after they graduate.
2. Battle Academy graduates get dropped into a <1M SP bracket. Then subsequent brackets can look something like this:
1M - 3M
3M - 6M
6M - 10M
10M - 15M
15M - 20M
20M - 25M
etc
Just my personal opinion. I'm sure other people have better ideas, but this would at least be an improvement. I've almost quit more than once when I would get dropped into games against corps full of 10M+ players while I have my whopping 750k - 1M SP. No, thanks.
